Smart city Mission in “Maharashtra”.....!!!
Maharashtra
the second largest state and financial capital of the country got 10 cities
shortlisted in the Govt’s smart cities mission. Each city will be funded by INR
500 Cr in next 5 year once it gets declared. Seven cities out of 10 already
have been declared in the first and third round where rest three is awaited for
the next round. Pune and Solapur were selected in the first round where Kalyan,
Nagpur, Thane, Nashik and Aurangabad were announced in the third list of 2016 –
2017. Maharashtra is the third largest state to secure highest number after
Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

1. Aurangabad Industrial City
On 7 September 2019,
the 10,000-acre Aurangabad
Industrial City (AURIC) in Aurangabad, Maharashtra was inaugurated as the first greenfield industrial smart city of India.
2. Nagpur
As a part of Smart City Project carried out by Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation Limited (NSSCDCL) the Union Ministry of Urban Development gave the ranking to 99 developing smart cities, in which Nagpur stood first in Maharashtra and second in India. Nagpur, which was positioned as the number one smart city in India, in February 2020 it declined to the second position. However, the city still holds the position of number one smart city among 99 developing cities across the country. It has now officially become ‘technologically developed,’ greenest and safest city in the state.

Under
the 420 crore Smart City Project, 1045 km of roads, 3674 CCTVs in the office
areas of Nagpur Police and NMCs have been installed. Around 140 wifi points,
Variable Message Sign Board, 10 environmental sensors, 56 public announcement
system, five mobile surveillance vans, five drones, 65 city kiosk, 383 smart
lights, smart parking, smart transport, City Operation Centre in NMC and
Command and Control Centre for police department in the city have been included
in the project.
Apart
from Nagpur, out of 31 best cities, Maharashtra’s four more cities – Nashik
(13), Pune (17), Amravati (20), Thane (22) – have also secured place in the
rankings.

Pune aspires to create a model neighborhood of livability and
sustainability matching global standards in the selected local area
(Aundh-Baner-Balewadi – ABB) by fully deploying all 24 smart city features in a
“future ready” manner. Future ready is critical because as the area develops,
it will undergo a 4x population growth by 2030 (from 40,000 to 160,000). Some
examples of planned initiatives are:
- Mobility: take
public transportation percentage to 50% from current 18% through 100
e-buses, 26 km BRT route, 54 bus stop overhaul and 100 e-rickshaws; take
NMT to 8% from 1% through 27 km bicycle tracks, 60 km footpath redesign
and placemaking
- Livability: increase
open spaces from 4% to 10% of total area through 13 parks and 3.4 km
world-class riverfront
- Create
45,000 jobs in the start-up hub for mixed use and walk-to-work
- Create
an interconnected ABB with a suite of citizen services/ e-governance on
top of it (ABB card, e-ABB customer services, 911 emergency, pan-area
wi-fi connectivity)
